Fun Money Lessons From the Olympics

Friday August 8, 2008

With the 2008 Summer Olympics in full swing for the next few weeks, there are some fun money lessons for kids.

For younger kids: Introduce the concept of different currencies in different countries. Explain that travels to foreign countries will require the use of a different kind of money. If you have any foreign coins, let your children compare the size, color, and pictures to the coins in their piggy bank.

For older kids: Introduce exchange rates during the Olympics. As you watch different competitors, determine the amount of currency your child will get in the athlete's country for one dollar.
