Back to School Opportunities to Teach Kids About Money

The kids are headed back to school soon and there are lots of opportunities to teach your kids about money this year. Here are some ideas to get you started:

• Shopping: Give your kids a budget to buy their back-to-school supplies and clothing. Help them learn to stay within their budget and make choices between different items.
• Lunch Money: Determine if your children are old enough to manage their own lunch money on a weekly basis. Will they have enough left on Friday?
• Registration: If you need to pay registration fees for school activities and a yearbook, go over the costs with your children. They will learn to appreciate the items more when they understand that they must be purchased.
