Experience

Beverly has worked in the areas of tax law, bankruptcy, and family law since 1996. She has over 30 years of experience as a writer and editor covering tax breaks, tax preparation software, and tax law terms for general readers.

Beverly has written and edited hundreds of articles for numerous well-known personal finance and legal websites, including GOBankingRates, PocketSense, Zack's, Autoblog, LegalZoom, The Nest, and more. Her work has also been reprinted in the Chicago Tribune and quoted on Reader's Digest.

Before putting her expertise to use in articles, Beverly worked as a paralegal working under a bankruptcy attorney, an estate attorney, a tax attorney, and a family law attorney. She worked for David A. Spitalnick, Esq., a tax, bankruptcy, and estate planning attorney, from 1996 to 2006, and Mona Raskin, Esq., a family law attorney, from 2006 to 2010.

In 2010, Beverly refocused her career from the brick-and-mortar law office to online—writing and publishing articles that answer common legal and tax questions and offer advice for general readers. She has been the tax expert for The Balance (and prior to that, About.com) since 2015.

In addition to her tax coverage, Beverly is also a prolific novelist, having published over 30 books, including the best-seller "Comes the Rain."
