Federal child labor laws state that the minimum age to work is 14 (with some exceptions).

State: New Mexico
Child employment certificate needed to work: Required by New Mexico state law for kids under age 16.
Where to obtain employment certificate needed to work: Employment certificates are provided by the school or the Labor Department. Ask about the employment certificates at your school's office to find out how to get an employment certificate.
Age certificate needed to work: Children ages 16 and 17 will be provided with an age certificate by request, however, it is not required under New Mexico state law.
Where to obtain age certificate needed to work: 16 and 17 year olds and older can obtain an age certificate provided by the school or the Labor Department.

Additional State Laws: The minimum age to work does not include door-to-door sales, working in the agricultural field, and the child entertainment industry.
