What was your first job?

Grocery Store Bagger and Stock Person

How old were you?

How much did you earn?

Minimum Wage $5.25?

How did you get your first job?

I had a friend working there and he suggested I apply. It looked like an easy job and it was in the A/C, so I applied, took a few tests, and luckily they hired me in a few weeks.

What did you love (or hate) about your first job?

I loved helping people with their bags, or helping them find things in the store. I loved the feeling of responsibility. I really loved knowing that I didn't need to ask my parents for spending money anymore. I could earn and spend money as I pleased. I sometimes hated that I had to work the schedule that was given to me, or hated getting up early for work.

  • Find a business or industry you are interested in and search for an entry-level job there.
  • Consider jobs that won't get in the way of your school work or regular activities.

Madison DuPaix, About.com Kids & Money, says:

Phil makes a great point about finding a job that's compatible with your schedule. A first job is very rewarding, but it's also important to make sure you leave enough time for school work.
