Kids Headed Off to College? 5 Things to Teach Them Before They Go

Friday August 22, 2008

Asa at Just Ask Asa shares five essential skills for your kids headed off to college. Three of the five tips are specifically related to money management. The first tip is how to use medical insurance. Seeing the wrong doctor or using the wrong clinic is an expensive mistake you won't want your kids to make.

In addition, he covers how to manage a cell phone plan, not the phone itself, but the monthly billing. He reminds you to teach your kids about available minutes, roaming, and extra charges. Finally he addresses how to use debit and credit cards. Hopefully you've already introduced credit cards to your kids and this one is covered. If not, there's no time like today to get them started.

The two other tips in Five Things to Teach Your Kids Before They Leave for College are writing thank you notes and learning how to do the laundry!
