What was your first job?

Busboy

How old were you?

17

How much did you earn?

about $50 a night

How did you get your first job?

My dad was working at the restaurant and they were looking for a busboy. I was on my summer break so I applied and got the job.

What did you love (or hate) about your first job?

I love the fact that I was making money each night and was able to save for things that I want. The food was good (2 free meals every day). On the minus side, I didn't like the fact that I have to stand and walk around for 8-10 hours a day -- that was painful.

Advice

  • Don't turn down your first job opportunity. Any kind of work will add to your experience and build character.
  • Don't get stuck in a job for too long. When you are young, it's time to experiment and try different things.
  • Don't put your job ahead of your education. It's fun to earn a bit of money now, but the really important thing is to do well in school and get that degree.
  • Keep everything in balance and enjoy life!

Pinyo's perspective to earn some money but keep your focus on school is a great reminder. Jobs for kids are fun, but make sure you're positioning yourself to be successful in the future.
